Castillo de San Gabriel

The Arrecife´s castle, Castillo de San Gabriel was the first building of any note in what was little more than a landing point for the odd caravel from Spain.It was built in 1574, and destroyed in 1586.The Italian Architect Leonardo Torriani built it again in 1596.
This doughty fort was sorely tested on several occasions by marocan corsairs ans european pirates. Today it is home to the archeologic museeum, a big name for a modest collection of artefacts found on the island, including many from the Cuevas de los Verdes.
Horary of the visits: all the year,from Tuesday to Wenesday: from 10:00h to 13:00h and from 16:00h to 19:00h.
